18th Century Life Size Carved Classical Head ( sold )
A truly wonderful, 18th century, carved Portland stone head of a Roman legionary, life-sized and most probably originally part of a full figure, now mounted on an iron stand. Details of a visor, neck guard and decorative decoration to the helmet are visible, has been outdoors for many years and has attained the most wonderful patination. There are two holes on the back of the head where originally it would have had an applied carved plume.
